The Cataraqui Archaeological Research Foundation is a professionally staffed non-profit organisation dedicated to the recognition, investigation, and preservation of Ontario's rich archaeological resources. The Foundation seeks to promote archaeological research and resource management through public education and awareness.
Incorporated in 1983 to oversee the excavation of Fort Frontenac in Kingston, the Foundation has expanded its geographic focus to serve all of Ontario. Activities are supported through various funding sources including memberships, government programmes, and donations.
The Foundation is now involved in a wide variety of projects: while continuing to participate in the excavation of both prehistoric and historic sites throughout eastern Ontario, we now also maintain an extensive interpretive display representing over 8000 years of human occupation in the Kingston area at the Kingston Archaeological Centre, we direct a number of educational programs for students of all ages, and we act as a consulting organisation performing archaeological evaluations for private customers.
Our hours are 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday, although we can make special arrangements to be open to visitors at other times if you call ahead.
